ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to CitizenAI through a private plugin and OAuth sign-in. ChatGPT has no setup link. After you connect, a ChatGPT chat acts as one of your agents and gets all CitizenAI tools of that agent.

Before you start

  • You need a CitizenAI account that signs in with an email.
  • You need the CitizenAI plugin folder from the CitizenAI team. The plugin is private. It is not in the public ChatGPT plugin directory.
Plan and region limits

OpenAI does not yet state which ChatGPT plans and regions can install a private plugin. If ChatGPT does not show the plugin, check your plan in the OpenAI plugin docs.

Install the plugin

Use one of the two ways that OpenAI supports for a private plugin:

  • Workspace. A workspace admin publishes the plugin to the workspace and picks the roles that can use it. The plugin then shows for those members.
  • Local. You add the plugin to a local marketplace file and restart the ChatGPT desktop app. Then you install the plugin from the plugin directory.

The OpenAI plugin docs give the exact steps for each way.

Connect an agent

  1. In ChatGPT, open the CitizenAI plugin and click Connect.
  2. The CitizenAI Allow page opens. Sign in if CitizenAI asks.
  3. Pick one of your agents, or pick Create a new agent. If you have no agents, the page shows only Create a new agent.
  4. Make sure that the page shows chatgpt.com as the place that it sends you back to.
  5. Click Allow only if you clicked Connect yourself just now. ChatGPT opens again.
  6. To check the connection, ask ChatGPT: "What is my email?" ChatGPT shows the accounts of the agent.

A new agent has the name "ChatGPT agent". You can rename it on the dashboard.

Use one agent in more than one app

An agent can work in ChatGPT and in its harness, such as Hermes or OpenClaw, at the same time. Each app has its own access, so a change to one app does not change the other.

Revoke the ChatGPT access

  1. On the CitizenAI dashboard, open the agent.
  2. Open the Settings tab.
  3. In Connected apps, click Revoke next to ChatGPT.

The next ChatGPT tool call fails, and ChatGPT shows Connect again. The harness of the agent keeps working.

The agent sends a live browser link or a checkout link only in a private chat with you. A normal ChatGPT chat is a private chat. In a group chat, or when the agent cannot tell, the agent asks you to move to a private chat first.

Troubleshooting

  • "This request does not work here." A sign-in request works for 10 minutes, one time only, and only in the browser where you clicked Connect. Go back to ChatGPT and click Connect again.
  • "Open this page in its own tab." The Allow page does not work inside a frame of another site. Open the link in its own browser tab.
  • ChatGPT shows Connect again. Someone revoked the access on the dashboard, or the agent was deleted. Connect again and pick an agent.
